By: Sherwin T. Villegas

It took a year of planning for this biggest activity of World Citi Colleges Quezon City. Finally it came to reality of giving the students with all in one activity. This activity would never be possible without the cooperation from all the colleges, Department of Student Affairs, Administration, Faculty and Paule’s Outdoor Activity Incorporated who is the partner of WCC in making this activity possible. The first batch of students who went to Mt. Makiling Los Baños, Laguna in Boy Scout of the Philippines Camp Ground are the 2nd and 3rd year students followed by all the freshmen students, held last March 7 – 10, 2012.

The field training exercises are composed activities like basic swimming techniques, Ropeworks and rappelling, team building and leadership training. The students are basically moved out from their comfort zone and goes back to basics of survival. They have undergone a test in their knowledge, skills, physical and mental endurance, cooperation, unity, understanding, discipline, trust, respect, self confidence and character and attitude development.

The first day activity focuses on orientation regarding rules and regulation of discipline and later they were given ample time to prepare their food. Every group must assign a leader and assistant leader who will disseminate the information or task to be given by their specific instructors. Half of the students were sent to swimming area for the basic swimming, water safety and rescue training, the other half was sent in the rappelling site for their basic rappelling, rope rescue training. After finishing these activities for the whole afternoon they were given a task to prepare a presentation in the evening for the socials night. During the socials the students presented different acts to perform some of them do mini skits, singing, dancing and of course the Paules Cheer. The winners of the presentation will be sent back to their tent and sleep while the not so lucky one will have to face their courage and meet “Aling Coring” in the cemetery.

On the second day students physical and mental endurance, leadership skills, trust will be tested with the amazing race activity. They have to face all the challenges, solve questions and puzzles, perform, swim, execute tasks, engage in the forest for trekking activities which they have to face also different obstacles inside the forest.

This activity was really a roller coaster of emotions a test of sustainability, endurance, personality and character development in each student who joined the training activity. What was important is they have learned what their capabilities are as an individual and what they can do to improve them and motivate others to push them to the limit and benefit from their struggles. If you surpass this training truly you are worthy to be called WCC – SURVIVORS! 2012
